2008 Scholarships

2007 Application

Because one of the primary functions of the Educational Foundation is to promote scholarship, it's scholarship committee has been charged with the duty of determining who shall receive financial support from the Educational Foundation in the form of scholarships. To date there have been sufficient funds to grant scholarships of $1,000 to $5,000 to fifteen to twenty deserving individuals at Convention over the past few years.

It is a goal of the committee to have enough funding to grant a scholarship to one individual from each Charge. Another goal of the committee is to induce the foundation to increase the scholarship budget as fundraising increases. If this were done, more significant grants could be disbursed. Someday, we may be able to fund an entire semester's tuition for someone. It is also important to note that the scholarship grants from the foundation are not limited to Theta Delta Chi brothers.

Each year, scholarship applications are sent out to each of the Charges. In addition, the scholarship application is posted on the fraternity's website. It is a simple matter to fill out our form, get a transcript and two letters of recommendation, provide a financial needs statement, and write a short letter explaining why you should receive a scholarship. The really interesting fact about this process is that the fraternity usually does not receive an exceptionally large number of applications. There is a very good chance that grants will be given to most of those who apply.

The scholarship applications are collected and organized by the CFO staff. Then, about a month before convention, the CFO sends out binders that include all of the applications and a scoring sheet. The scholarship committee members each receive a copy. The applications are reviewed and the scores are recorded. Usually, there are three categories to be scored: Service to the Fraternity, Scholarship and Need. These categories are weighted. Service to the Fraternity counts 35%, scholarship counts 45% and need accounts for the remaining 20% of each score. Applicants are rated on a scale of 1 to 10 for each category and then the weighting factor is applied, resulting in a composite score. Then, the CFO staff compiles all of the scores and averages them for each applicant. This way, no one on the committee knows who will receive a grant until they are announced at the convention banquet.

This year we will start sending out applications March 15th. If you would like to receive an application, please send an e-mail to cfo@tdx.org. If it would be easier for you to download a copy, you can do so by clicking on the Scolarship graphic at the top of this page. In order to view the applicaion you must have a copy of Adobe Reader. If you do not have a copy of Adobe Reader, you can get one from the Adobe website.
